“They Were More Than Movies to Me”: Italian Films, New YorkCity Television and the Work of Martin Scorsese,” a lecture by Dr. Laura Ruberto, is scheduled at San Francisco’s Museo Italo Americano, 4:30 p.m., Sun., Jan. 24. Dr. Ruberto, cochair of BCC’s Arts and Cultural Studies Department, will discuss the films of a young Martin Scorsese in relation to how the Italian films he viewed as a child in New York City, influenced his work. Her lecture examines how Italian films ended up airing on New York City’s television stations the movies that Scorsese actually watched. How did these films, viewed at home, impact his life and his work? Besides her work at Berkeley City College, Dr. Ruberto is co-editor of the Fordham University Press series on Critical Studies in Italian America and serves as the film and digital media review editor for the Italian American Review.
