PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY (GEOG 001)

Physical geography studies the processes at work in the physical environment in order to understand the earth as the home of people. Physical geography shows how everything connects to everything else. It pulls together several natural sciences.
• Geology - Landscapes, earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, floods, etc.
• Meteorology - How the weather machine works
• Climatology - Why global climate regions differ, their opportunities and limitations
• Ecology - Environmental issues, global warming, desertification, rain forests, etc.

Physical geography is a science class which many students find difficult. However, we offer a lot of help in the form of Web Learning Modules, computer tutorials, study guides, visual materials, and Web exploration.

Physical geography is a prerequisite or co requisite to the physical geography lab. It meets the lab requirements for transfer to a four-year college. This is a one unit course for 3 hours of lab work each week. The class uses the computer lab, Room 323, to access Web resources and geographic information systems (GIS). GIS is a computer-based mapping tool and is one of the ten fastest growing job opportunities for students.

ONLINE WORLD REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY (GEOG 003)

(NOTE:  THIS COURSE IS NOT OFFERED THIS SEMESTER)

World Regional Geography is a study of world cultural realms looking at the cultural, economic, and political aspects of major world regions. It emphasizes current issues, such as:
• Globalization - Economic and Cultural Interdependence
• Rich Nations, Poor Nations
• World Population Growth
• Devolution - The Break Up of Nations
• Urbanization

This Online World Regional Geography class uses short video case studies of current geographic issues, PowerPoint slides, Internet exploration, quizzes, and maps to build geographic literacy. You have many opportunities to participate in online class discussion.
 
An orientation to the online course is held before the course begins. Two midterms, and a final are held on campus.
 

DISTANT LEARNERS can make special arrangements for midterms, final, etc.
